Support for Mapinfo Fill patterns

We've been having trouble with MI 8.5 tables containing fills.
At this location is a simple MI table with all available fills with no background.

Displays fine in MI.
When you open this table in a MXM application the only fill that works is solid (number 2)
However creating polygons in MXM application and style override work fine.
So MXM is capable of displaying fills,(Up to fill 71 incidently) but seems not to be able to open tables prepared in MI with fills in place.
Reviewing the developers manual a property called STYLE.REGIONTRANSPARENT exists. It's use is to set the fill of filled polygons transparent.
Is it possible that this property (not available under MI 8.5 at least) is causing these fills to default to transparent?
